| The environmentally preferred products have become a priority as a result of legislation approved by the European Union (EU) on the restriction of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products. The two directives are the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and the Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). | ||
| The RoHS directive states that the targeted materials shall no longer be contained in the electronic products above certain limits unless there is an exemption provided in the rule. The WEEE addresses the collection and treatment requirements of electronic equipment. | ||
| The Directives apply to all electrical and electronic products and their component parts offered for sale into the European Union and other countries after July 1, 2006. | ||
